Hamburg 1886. Die Reederstochter Lily träumt davon, Schriftstellerin zu werden. Bei einer Schiffstaufe hält sie die Rede - da weht ihr ein Windstoß den Hut vom Kopf, ein Arbeiter will ihn zurückholen und wird dabei schwer verletzt.
