A murder by harpoon was committed in Forest Row in the Weald. The victim is 50-year-old Peter Carey, a former boatswain on the Dundee Unicorn whaling ship. Young inspector Stanley Hopkins turns to Sherlock Holmes, whom he considered his mentor, for help. Holmes determined that the killer possessed extraordinary strength, because with one blow he pinned the man to the wall with a harpoon. This is where the knot of mystery begins to unravel.
