Marion Braschs autobiografischer Roman erzählt die Geschichte einer außergewöhnlichen Familie. Der Vater, konvertierter Jude, der den Holocaust im englischen Exil überlebt, lässt sich mit seiner jungen Familie in der sowjetischen Besatzungszone nieder und wird später stellvertretender Kulturminister der DDR. Die Brüder, darunter Thomas Brasch, werden als Schriftsteller, Dramatiker und Schauspieler bekannt.
