ಹೂವು ಒಂದು ವೇಶ್ಯಾ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಧರ್ಮನಿಷ್ಠ ಪೂಜಾರಿಯ ಅವರ 'ಧರ್ಮ' ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ 'ಭಕ್ತಿ' ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಉಲ್ಲಂಘಿಸುವ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ಕುರಿತ ನಾಟಕೀಯ ಸ್ವಗತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕರ್ನಾಡ್ ಮಾನವ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾನಪದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ನಿಷ್ಠೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವ ಸಮಕಾಲೀನ ಸಂವೇದನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ರಿಫ್ರೆಶ್ ಮಾಡಿಧರೆ. 'Hoovu' is a dramatic monologue about a devoted and pious priest who violates both his 'dharma' and his 'bhakti' because of his love for a courtesan. Girish Karnad takes a folk tale about the human condition and refreshes it with a contemporary sensibility that embraces love, loyalty and honour.
