Dr. James Hardcastle weilt zur Erholung von einer schweren Erkrankung auf der Farm der Allertons im ländlich-idyllischen Derbyshire. Als er dort von merkwürdigen Vorkommnissen in einem stillgelegten Bergwerk wispern hört, wird seine Neugier geweckt. Im Stollen wurde ehedem der nur in dieser Gegend vorkommende Fluorit Blue John abgebaut, bis die Mine aus gutem Grund aufgegeben wurde...
