The fairy tale 'The Selfless Hare' by the Russian writer Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, published in 1883. In this work, the author, in his characteristic satirical manner, ridiculed the slavish obedience of the common people, their fear of those in power, who only mocked them. These motives are embodied in the image of the hare, sentenced to death by the wolf.
