The debut novel by screenwriter and director Islam Khanipayev is written on behalf of an eight-year-old boy living in Makhachkala. Having lost his mother and being attacked at school, the hero finds support from an imaginary friend, Cool Ali. He prepares to become a 'great warrior' and goes in search of his father. This is not only a story about trauma and overcoming it, but also about growing up and accepting the hard truth of the hero, whom you unconditionally believe and empathize with.
