Lesya Ukrainka (Larysa Petrivna Kosach) is a Ukrainian writer, translator, cultural figure. She wrote in the genre of poetry, lyric, epic, drama, prose, journalism. She also worked in the field of folkloristics (220 folk melodies were recorded from her voice). 'The Boyarinya' is a dramatic poem written over three days in Helwan (near Cairo, Egypt). This is the only work of the writer based on Ukrainian history. The events in the poem take place during the Ruin era (60s of the 17th century) on the Left Bank of Ukraine and in Moscow.
