Heinrich von Kleist wurde 1777 in Frankfurt (Oder) geboren. Er starb 1811 in Berlin. Die Novelle Das Erbeben in Chili (1807) erzählt ein bewegendes Einzelschicksal während des katastrophalen Erbebens im heutigen Chile im Jahre 1647. Wieder einmal beweist Kleist seine außergewöhnliche Fähigkeit, bedeutende Themen wie Schicksal, Liebe und Moral in sprachlich origineller Weise berührend zur Darstellung zu bringen.
