Die 10jährige Flora bezeichnet sich selbst als Zynikerin und sie liebt Superhelden-Comics, denn ihr Vater George war ein leidenschaftlicher, wenn auch erfolgloser Comiczeichner. Nach der Trennung ihrer Eltern lebt Flora bei ihrer Mutter Phyllis, die Liebesromane schreibt und Superhelden ablehnt. Als Flora einem Eichhörnchen das Leben rettet und es heimlich mit ins Haus bringt, bemerkt sie, dass es über Superkräfte verfügt. Sie nennt es Ulysses, erlebt mit ihrem kleinen Superhelden lustige Abenteuer und begibt sich mit ihm auf eine besondere Mission.
