Der kleinen Hanno Dietz schlägt sich mit seiner Mutter im Hamburg der Nachkriegsjahre durch. Steine klopfen, Altmetall suchen, Schwarzhandel - das ist sein Alltag. Eines Tages entdeckt er in den Trümmern eine Tote - und etwas abseits einen etwa dreijährigen Jungen, der erstaunlich gut gekleidet ist. Das Kind spricht kein Wort, Verwandte sind nicht auffindbar. Und so wächst das Findelkind bei den Dietzens auf. Jahre später kommt das einstige Trümmerkind durch Zufall einem Verbrechen auf die Spur, das auf fatale Weise mit seiner Familie verknüpft ist ...
