An einem malerischen Sommerabend brennt die Friedhofskapelle nieder. Als die Lokalreporterin Ira Wittekind am Tatort ankommt, findet sie ein schauriges Szenario vor: In der Ruine steht ein Rollstuhl vor dem Altar, der Mann darin ist tot. Es handelt sich um den angesehenen Apotheker Ludwig Hahnwald, allen bekannt als der schöne Ludwig. Ira beginnt zu recherchieren und stößt auf ein Geflecht aus Lügen, Intrigen und verratener Liebe.
