August Strindberg ist so glücklich wie lange nicht mehr. Sein Secondhand-Laden läuft besser als gedacht, und: August ist verliebt - in die Kriminalkommissarin Maria Martinsson. Doch dann bricht in seinem neuen Heimatort Hovenäset in einer kalten Januarnacht ein Feuer aus. Dabei werden zwei Bootshäuser zerstört - eines davon gehört August. Als plötzlich eine Leiche auftaucht, ermittelt die Polizei nicht wegen Brandstiftung, sondern wegen Mordes!
