Der zwölfjährige Timothy und seine Mutter Alice sind unterwegs zu einer einsamen Villa bei Mount Rushmore, wo die Köpfe der amerikanischen Präsidenten aus dem Fels gehauen wurden. Alice soll dort als Pflegerin für die alte Miss Clawfield arbeiten. Was nach einem einfachen Job klingt, wird für Timothy und Alice schon bald zum Horrortrip. Unheimliche Dinge geschehen in dem alten Herrenhaus, Dinge verschwinden, jemand schleicht nachts herum und das, obwohl die alte Dame das Bett doch angeblich nicht verlassen kann. Am Ende einer furchtbaren Nacht, in der auch Menschen sterben, weiß Timothy nicht mehr, wem er noch glauben kann. Vielleicht nicht einmal sich selbst ...
