Hercule Poirot hoort toevallig hoe twee mensen plannen maken voor een huwelijksreis naar Egypte. Als hij een paar maanden later een bootreis maakt over de Nijl, ontmoet hij het stel bij toeval weer. De man is inderdaad op huwelijksreis, maar met een andere vrouw. En het meisje is er ook... Alleen!
