'Christ's Night' (Legend) - a fairy tale by Russian writer Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin first appeared in print in 1886 in issue 245 of 'Russkie Vedomosti'. Together with 'Christ's Night', the fairy tale 'By the Way and the Road' was also first published in this issue. ' This tale is devoted to the problems of morality (or ethics). For greater accessibility (to the consciousness of a wide range of readers) Saltykov-Shchedrin uses the Gospel parable of the betrayal of Judas and the resurrection of Christ (as well as the plot of the legend of Ahasuerus, the 'Eternal Jew') in the form of a Christian sermons.
