Ich habe im Grunde keine schlechte Erziehung genossen, sondern vielmehr gar keine. War ich ein braves, frommes, folgsames, anstelliges Kind, so lobten mich meine Eltern; war ich das Gegenteil, so zankten sie mich derb aus. Das Lob tat mir fast allezeit wohl, und ich hatte dabei das Gefühl, als ob ich in die Länge ginge, weil manche Kinder wie Pflanzen sind, die nur bei Sonnenschein schlank wachsen.
