Ein brotloser Komponist darf endlich seine erste Sinfonie im berühmten großen Saal des Wiener Konzerthauses aufführen und dirigieren. Der unerfahrene Dirigent versteht nicht viel von Motivation und offenbart bei den Proben einen narzisstischen Charakter. Die Proben enden im Fiasko und die Sinfonie wird dennoch ein Erfolg.
