Während die Mutter in der Entzugsklinik und der Vater mit seiner Assistentin auf "Geschäftsreise" ist, verbringt der 14-jährige Außenseiter Maik Klingenberg die großen Ferien allein am Pool der elterlichen Villa. Doch dann kreuzt Tschick auf. Tschick, eigentlich Andrej Tschichatschow, stammt aus dem tiefsten Russland, kommt aus einem der Hochhäuser in Berlin-Marzahn - und hat einen geklauten Lada dabei. Damit beginnt eine Reise ohne Karte und Kompass durch die sommerglühende ostdeutsche Provinz.
