The story 'Taras Bulba' by Nikolai Gogol is based on Cossack chronicles, historical research, and especially folk songs about fearless Cossacks. Having creatively rethought them, the author created immortal images of Taras Bulba and his sons against the backdrop of the heroic era of Cossack uprisings. The story was included in the cycle 'Mirgorod' and became one of the most beloved works of Nikolai Gogol.
