Als Sherlock Holmes erfährt, dass sein Freund Sir Archibald Maitland von dem zwielichtigen Richard Mordon erpresst wird, hat er nur noch ein Ziel: Den teuflischen Erpresser zu überlisten und ihm dauerhaft sein schäbiges Handwerk zu legen.
