अयोध्या विजय से रावण बहुत प्रसन्न था. उसकी माँ कैकसी का सपना पूरा हो रहा था. त्रिलोक पर रावण का झंडा लहरा रहा था. आखिर, मयासुर जो असुरों का स्थपति था उसकी बनाई योजना पर पूरी लंका को सोने की बनाने का निर्णय लिया गया. अब सोने की लंका बन रही थी. बाहर का परकोट, अंदर के घर, रावण का महल, सब खालिस सोने के बने थे. वही अयोध्या में कैकई के कान भरने का काम उसकी दासी मंथरा कर रही थी. जिसका एक ही मकसद था, कैकई का पुत्र अयोध्या का अगला राजा हो.
