In Pontypandy soll ein großes Feuerwerk stattfinden. Das spornt Joe an, ein zweites Feuerwerk mit einer neuen, von ihm entwickelten Maschine abzufeuern. Die Vorführung findet beim Haus der Floods statt. Aber schon bald droht nicht nur deren Haus und der angrenzende Wald in Brand zu geraten, auch Joe und Mike sind in der Garage plötzlich von Flammen eingeschlossen.
