Hryhoriy Skovoroda is an outstanding Ukrainian philosopher, educator, humanist writer of the 18th century. The author of philosophical and pedagogical treatises, poetic works, translations, sermons, parables, fables, he was a highly educated person of his time, his genius grew on folk soil. During his lifetime, Skovoroda was called the 'Ukrainian Socrates' and 'Ukrainian Horace', because he significantly developed philosophy, literature, and pedagogy in Ukraine. In his works, Skovoroda glorified the nature of Ukraine, its hard-working people, the desire for happiness and freedom, ridiculed the masters for their parasitism, for mocking the people. And he also declared a person and his will to be the highest value.
