Als die Thorsteegs in Rosenborg einziehen wollen, gibt es unerwartete Schwierigkeiten. Vater Gunnar muß Pferde verkaufen, weil das Geld nicht ausreicht für den neuen Hof. Er stellt Wendy vor die Wahl: Sie soll entweder "Miss Dixie" oder "Penny" hergeben. Doch Wendy liebt beide Pferde und will sich von keinem trennen. Der Vater ist unerbittlich, Wendy muß sich entscheiden.
