Weimar, um 1790: Der Großherzog von N. hat einen verstörenden Brief erhalten, in dem behauptet wird, dass sein geliebter Smaragdring mit einem tödlichen Fluch beladen sei. Herzogin Anna Amalia holt ihre Vertrauten Goethe und Schiller zu Hilfe, um das Rätsel aufzuklären. Schon bald nach deren Ankunft im Schloss Belvedere stirbt der Großherzog auf mysteriöse Weise. Als eine weitere Leiche folgt, wird der Fall vollends undurchsichtig. In der Tradition von Arthur Conan Doyle gehen Goethe und Schiller in Weimar auf Verbrecherjagd - ein blitzgescheiter und aberwitziger Spaß.
