Siegfried, der Drachentöter, wurde durch seinen Sieg über den mächtigen Zwerg Alberich Besitzer der Tarnkappe. Um die schöne Kriemhild zur Frau zu bekommen, segelt er nun mit König Gunther von Burgund nach Island. Gunther will sich die starke, männermordende Königin Brünhild erkämpfen. Doch allein kann er es nicht schaffen. Siegfried muß ihm helfen.
