Charlotte liebt ihren Job als Archivarin. Die anstehende Rente erscheint ihr daher nicht als sonderlich attraktive Perspektive. Auf der Such nach neuen Impulsen reist sie nach Norderney. Doch schnell stellt sich heraus, dass die Nordseeinsel in keiner Weise das idyllische Eiland ist, das sie erwartet hat. Der gewaltsame Tod des Inselarztes schockiert Einheimisch und Gäste. Während der Fall für die Polizei schnell klar ist, nutzt Charlotte ihr Talent und beginnt zu recherchieren. Das sie damit Gefahr läuft, die Rente nicht mehr zu erleben, wird ihr viel zu spät klar.
